Super Meat Boy |
---|
Developer: Team Meat This game has unused areas. |
- Mar 18, 2012 All of the Characters from the Game Super Meat Boy. (Except for the Old School Meat Boys, and Potato Boy).
- Tofu Boy is a joke character in response to PETA's parody of Super Meat Boy, Super Tofu Boy. Tofu Boy is weaker than Meat Boy. He moves slower, does not jump as high, and has less distance from jumping off a wall. To stop playing as Tofu Boy, pause the game, and select another character. Glitch levels. Defeat the Boss of any chapter.
This page is rather stubbly and could use some expansion. Are you a bad enough dude to rescue this article? |
Super Meat Boy is a classic tale of boy meets girl. Except the boy has no skin, the girl is made out of bandages, and they're both being hassled by a fetus in a snappily dressed mechanical suit with an endless supply of sawblades and plague syringes. You've probably heard it all before.

Console Characters
The graphics for the Xbox 360-only characters are still present in the PC version of the game, but their code is not - hex-editing your save game to forcibly unlock them just gives you a bunch of Meat Boy duplicates.
Unused Stages
Found within the game's 'gamedata.dat' are the game's files, and some unused stages made for testing. Here is the list of files that are unused in the game (not counting leftovers from teh internet's stages on the Xbox 360 version) found in the directory [/gamedata.dat/data/levels/]. Half of these seem to be tests.

Level consists of a little room with a key floating in the middle. If Meat Boy touches the key, he will be killed immediately. It is possible that 'fake keys' which killed the player on contact were planned to be in the game.
- boss6test.smbl
- boss32.smbl
Early design of the Brownie boss level. Salt flows from right to the left instead of a heap of salt slowly rising from the ground. However, the salt wave only goes to the left, once it hits the wall, it will disappear and respawn on the start point again. Interestingly, the boss's intro cutscenes still has the salt flowing the way it does in this early design. The level contains a few graphical errors, and is not completable due to several broken hit boxes.

Early design of Lil' Slugger's boss level. Unlike in the final version, the forest in this level looks like it is actually on fire. Fire was removed from the final version, possibly due to performance issues on older hardware. The layout of this level seems to indicate that it was for the original version of Lil' Slugger, which had spider legs.
- demon.smbl
Very early design of Little Horn's boss level. It consists only of a few lines and boss object '8'. Curiously, the boss object is rotated by 45 degrees, though the rotation of boss objects doesn't seem to have any effect on bosses.

Developer Mode
There are some debug tools left in the game, including an unfinished, buggy version of the level editor. Add -devmode to the game's command line parameters. Press F1 to enter the editor, and press it again to exit the editor. F3, F4 etc. open some other editors.
Note: don't use new level, the palette thing is bugged. Instead, when starting the game, add the command-line: -palette palettefile.lp
For Super Meat Boy on the PC, a GameFAQs message board topic titled 'Actual keyboard controls?' I've recently started playing Super Meat Boy on the PC, but I find that the default control scheme to be rather lacking. I would much prefer to use something other than space for jumping. Is there anyway for my change the control scheme of Super Meat Boy? Jun 17, 2014 Super Meat Boy's Keyboard Remap Tool remaps the keyboard and gamepad controls for the Super Meat Boy hardcore platformer. The game developers have not included an option to change those in game. So I made a tool to change a special configs file, which can modify the game controls. Feb 21, 2012 Steam's default keyboard controls are very hard to use IMO, so if you're using the keyboard I'd suggest trying something like 'a' and 's' instead of 'shift' and 'space'. This can also be useful for setting up controls on a gamepad that isn't an XBOX controller. To change your. Super Meat Boy is easier with a gamepad only if gamepad is the input device you are more at ease with generally speaking, that's all. A few top players (Breakdown, Joe) play on keyboard and it's pretty obvious it doesn't hinder their skill.
Replace 'palettefile.lp' with one of the following:
- 4bit1.lp
- end.lp
- factory.lp
- forest.lp
- gb.lp
- glitch.lp
- hell.lp
- hospital.lp
- rapture.lp
- retro1.lp
It'll start you with that palette.
Editor Key Binds

Character Select
Add -char # to your command line (only works in devmode), replacing '#' with one of the following:
- 2 = 8-Bit Meat Boy
- 3 = 4-Color Meat Boy
- 4 = 4-Bit Meat Boy
- 5 = Dr. Fetus
- 6 = Brownie
- 7 = Bandage Girl
- 8 = Meat Ninja
- 11 = Naija
- 12 = Commander Video
- 13 = Runman
- 14 = Goo Ball
- 15 = Mr. Minecraft (Steve)
- 17 = Flywrench
- 19 = Jill
- 20 = Captain Viridian
- 22 = Machinarium
- 23 = The Kid
- 24 = Headcrab
- 25 = Ogmo
- 27 = Ending Meat Boy
- 28 = Alien Hominid
- 29 = Auto-Running Meat Boy
- 30 = Tim
- Anything else = Default Meat Boy
Note that Dr. Fetus is selectable in this mode, which is normally impossible. Pressing the Special button makes him shoot rockets. Also note that Alien Hominid, and Tim are here which normally can't be selected in the editor without this command.
Boss Select
Add -boss # to your command line to activate boss in devmode.
- 0 = Lil' Slugger
- 1 = C.H.A.D.
- 2 = Brownie
- 3 = Little Horn
- 4 = Larries Lament
- 5 = Dr. Fetus
Please note that some bosses crash the game if some boss objects (white squares with number) are not already present in the level while loading it. Some bosses also crash the game after finishing them in devmode.

I can draw only one conclusion from all of these polls regarding video-game violence: Americans do not make sense.
News Blips:
Super Meat Boy Free Download
A new poll finds more than half of Americans believe violent video games cause more violence. According to Rasmussen Reports, 54 percent of those polled think violent video games lead to more violence in society, 32 percent think there is no correlation, and 14 percent are not sure. Only five percent believe the government should be responsible for monitoring the content of games, while 71 percent believes the responsibility should lie with the parents and 21 percent think it's with game makers. Despite these numbers, 65 percent believe states should be allowed to restrict the rental and sale of violent games to minors. So parents should be responsible for what their kids play but states should be able to regulate games? Real smart, America.
Super Meat Boy Controller
Nintendo of America President Reggie Fils-Aime says the company wants to sell 15 million more Wii units in North America before moving on to its next console. 'After we've reached an installed base of 45 million here in the U.S., we can have a conversation about the next generation,' he told Kotaku. 'As we sit here today we're saying the Wii has many, many more units to sell.' That would be a reasonable goal if Nintendo had more than one real hit a year.
Super Meat Boy's Xbox Live sale lasts through the end of this week. Team Meat's indie platformer is currently available on Xbox Live for the discounted price of $10, but the fee will go up to $15 this Sunday. Super Meat Boy designer Edmund McMillan said the current price factors in a 33 percent release sale discount that hasn't been widely publicized, and he doesn't want fans to feel screwed over when the price goes up next week. Sorry, Edmund: Even if they get it on the cheap, fans are screwed. Super Meat Boy is brutal!
Super Meat Boy Console Set
Blizzard posts job openings for console developers to work on Diablo 3. On its career page, Blizzard lists lead designer, lead programmer, and senior producer positions for consoles under its Diablo 3 heading. The lead designer description lists 'prior experience in console game development' and an 'extensive knowledge of Diablo' as requirements. These job listings probably mean Blizzard is planning a console version of Diablo 3, but let's not rule out the possibility of a Diablo kart racer!
